Cette annonce a \u00e9t\u00e9 faite le 24 septembre 2024 \u00e0 Bobo-Dioulasso, au cours d&rsquo;une session d&rsquo;information et de formation organis\u00e9e par l&rsquo;Association interprofessionnelle du Coton Burkinab\u00e8 (AICB) \u00e0 l&rsquo;intention des producteurs de coton venus de tout le pays. Selon Niki\u00e9bo N\u2019Kambi, pr\u00e9sident de l\u2019AICB, ce retour tant attendu est motiv\u00e9 par les avantages ind\u00e9niables de cette technologie dans le contexte agricole actuel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Le coton g\u00e9n\u00e9tiquement modifi\u00e9, et plus pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment le coton BT, avait \u00e9t\u00e9 suspendu en 2016 en raison de divers probl\u00e8mes de production. Cependant, les avanc\u00e9es scientifiques r\u00e9centes et la pression \u00e9conomique ont pouss\u00e9 les autorit\u00e9s \u00e0 reconsid\u00e9rer cette culture. N\u2019Kambi a soulign\u00e9 que le coton BT permet une r\u00e9duction significative de l\u2019utilisation des pesticides, ce qui en fait une solution plus respectueuse de l\u2019environnement. \u00ab Avec le CGM, le nombre de traitements chimiques passe de 6, 8, voire 10, \u00e0 seulement 2 \u00bb, a-t-il pr\u00e9cis\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">En plus de ces b\u00e9n\u00e9fices environnementaux, le retour du CGM s\u2019accompagne de gains \u00e9conomiques pour les producteurs. Le co\u00fbt de production devrait diminuer, tandis que les rendements sont promis \u00e0 une hausse, am\u00e9liorant ainsi la comp\u00e9titivit\u00e9 de la fili\u00e8re coton burkinab\u00e8. \u00ab Cela permet \u00e9galement de pr\u00e9server la sant\u00e9 des producteurs, qui seront moins expos\u00e9s aux produits chimiques \u00bb, a ajout\u00e9 N\u2019Kambi.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">La suspension du coton g\u00e9n\u00e9tiquement modifi\u00e9 en 2016 avait marqu\u00e9 un coup dur pour la recherche et la production cotonni\u00e8re au Burkina Faso, l&rsquo;un des principaux pays producteurs de coton en Afrique. Pendant huit ans, la fili\u00e8re a cherch\u00e9 des solutions alternatives pour maintenir sa place sur le march\u00e9 international, mais les r\u00e9sultats n&rsquo;ont pas \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e0 la hauteur des attentes. Aujourd&rsquo;hui, la relance du coton BT est per\u00e7ue comme une opportunit\u00e9 de redonner un souffle nouveau \u00e0 l\u2019industrie cotonni\u00e8re burkinab\u00e8.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Le gouvernement et les acteurs de la fili\u00e8re semblent d\u00e9sormais pr\u00eats \u00e0 tirer les le\u00e7ons du pass\u00e9 et \u00e0 maximiser les avantages de cette technologie pour rendre la production de coton plus durable et plus rentable.
