Le pr\u00e9sident r\u00e9volutionnaire Thomas Sankara d\u00e9baptisait la Haute-Volta, vestige de la colonisation fran\u00e7aise, pour donner naissance au Burkina Faso, \u00ab\u00a0la patrie des hommes int\u00e8gres\u00a0\u00bb.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Quarante et un ans plus tard, cet acte de rupture continue de r\u00e9sonner comme l\u2019un des symboles forts de la d\u00e9colonisation post-ind\u00e9pendance en Afrique. En effa\u00e7ant le nom impos\u00e9 par l\u2019administration coloniale, Sankara voulait inscrire le pays dans une dynamique nouvelle, affranchie des h\u00e9ritages oppressifs de l\u2019\u00e8re coloniale.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Cr\u00e9\u00e9e en 1919 par la France, la Haute-Volta tirait son nom du fleuve Volta, sans lien r\u00e9el avec les identit\u00e9s culturelles et linguistiques de ses habitants. Ce nom, purement g\u00e9ographique, portait en lui les traces d\u2019une \u00e9poque o\u00f9 les nations africaines n\u2019\u00e9taient que des pi\u00e8ces sur l\u2019\u00e9chiquier imp\u00e9rial europ\u00e9en.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">En 1984, dans un geste hautement symbolique, Thomas Sankara balaie cette d\u00e9signation coloniale pour imposer un nom enracin\u00e9 dans les langues locales : \u00ab\u00a0Burkina Faso\u00a0\u00bb, compos\u00e9 du moor\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0Burkina\u00a0\u00bb (int\u00e8gre) et du dioula \u00ab\u00a0Faso\u00a0\u00bb(terre\/patrie). Litt\u00e9ralement : <\/span><span class=\"s2\">la patrie des hommes int\u00e8gres<\/span><span class=\"s1\">. Un clin d\u2019\u0153il appuy\u00e9 \u00e0 la diversit\u00e9 linguistique du pays et un appel \u00e0 l\u2019unit\u00e9 nationale par l\u2019int\u00e9grit\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Pour Sankara, ce changement ne relevait pas simplement du cosm\u00e9tique. C\u2019\u00e9tait un acte politique majeur, un \u00ab\u00a0re-naming\u00a0\u00bb qui visait \u00e0 rompre mentalement et symboliquement avec le pass\u00e9 colonial.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u00ab\u00a0Nous devons oser inventer l\u2019avenir\u00a0\u00bb, d\u00e9clarait-il dans un discours rest\u00e9 c\u00e9l\u00e8bre. Le changement de nom de la nation n\u2019\u00e9tait qu\u2019une premi\u00e8re \u00e9tape dans sa volont\u00e9 de b\u00e2tir un \u00c9tat souverain, juste, autosuffisant et d\u00e9barrass\u00e9 de ses complexes post-coloniaux.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Ce 4 ao\u00fbt 1984 est ainsi devenu une date fondatrice dans la m\u00e9moire burkinab\u00e8. Elle marque non seulement un changement de nom, mais l\u2019amorce d\u2019une vision r\u00e9volutionnaire : celle d\u2019un pays ma\u00eetre de son destin, port\u00e9 par des valeurs d\u2019int\u00e9grit\u00e9, de justice sociale et de dignit\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Aujourd\u2019hui encore, l\u2019h\u00e9ritage de Sankara continue d\u2019inspirer de nombreuses g\u00e9n\u00e9rations au Burkina Faso et ailleurs sur le continent.
